Sewing Tips

  • use a fine needle
  • shorten your stitch length
  • stabilize with tissue paper or wash-away stabilizer before sewing
  • needle: new & sharp needle so it pierces rather than pulls the mesh
  • Microtex (size 60/8 to 70/10) or a Universal needle
  • thread: use high quality polyhester thread, and test on scraps
  • 2.5–3.0 mm stitch length or a very narrow zigzag stitch to secure the seams
  • prevent the presser foot from sticking or sinking into the holes by placing a piece of clear, invisible tape on the bottom of a regular presser foot, or use a teflon/non-stick foot
  • standard sewing pins can easily distort or pull the tulle's open weave. Sewing clips or small safety pins safely holds all layers together.
  • tulle shifts very easily; cut layers individually.
  • edges do not fray, which makes it very versatile. You may leave the edges completely raw, or finish hems with bias binding for a professional finish.
